Some of God's Interventions

Reading the Scriptures is similar to prospecting, you have to do much digging to uncover a gem or two. One gem I found is that not only do Moslems, Christians and Jews all worship the same God, but they all trace their lineage to Abraham of the Scriptures. However, that hasn't prevented differences in religious practices from becoming a cause of conflict. The ignorance we share of one another's religion can only fade with education, especially when we realize that God made repeated attempts to educate humanity. This page itemizes some of those attempts.

Although some accounts in the Scriptures are difficult to believe or understand, there is a pattern of "continued education" where God periododically "spoon feeds humanity" at a level we can understand. Therefore as the centuries passed, God's messages became more complex, just as we educate our own young. With this understanding of a pattern of "continued education" consider the following.

In Genesis the account of the Garden of Eden, God create the world and humanity and deals with a small rebellion. We are therefore given the knowledge of good and evil and the free will to act for ourselves. But God's intention and wishes for humanity, which are repeated many times in the Scriptures, is that we use our knowledge and free will to be "fruitful and become many". This can be interpreted for humanity to prosper and multiply.

Later the Scriptures relate that humanity became many and many became sinful and corrupt. God thus instructs Noah on how to save what is good, while the evil is left to perish in the flood.

Next, during the time of Abram who becomes Abraham the father of Ishmael and Isaac, who in turn become the origins of the Arabian and Israeli people, God favors the good and lets the evil in Sodom and Gomorrah perish. God also instructs Abraham in good health and hygiene practices. Here we begin to see more complex instructions given to humanity.

The history of Moses is well documented, probably because he wrote it himself. In the Bible he writes of visions and instructions received from God to lead the Jews out of Egypt. Upon doing so Moses spends 40 days on Mount Sinai. At this time Moses receives the beginnings of a series of instructions, starting with what is known as the Ten Commandments. Later on he receives hundreds of specific rules governing many aspects of community life. Det Subsequently the Israelites prosper and multiply. Eventually, they falter, become lazy and forgetful of rules, the source of their prosperity. In doing so, the Israelites weaken themselves and get into trouble. God, in anticipation of our continued educational needs, "schedules" and allowed man to prophesize the next intervention, the coming of the Mesiah, or who Christians call Jesus.

During his ministry, Jesus teaches his followers updated instructions and additional Commandments. The New Testament is a documentation of his teachings. Although, his presence had a profound impact, it took 50 years for his instructions to be written, and another 300 years for the Church that his disciples started to be recognized. That Church developed a hiercal structure that was both beneficial in maintaining order and detrimental in that it was slow to respond to the changes in society. After the Fall of Rome and the rise of the Christian Church, Europe fell into the Dark Ages, a period when the church dominated life and ignorance florished. This left many areas of the world unaware of God's Word. Therefore, other interventions occured. Most notable was the visions shown to Mohamad, those which eventually were recorded as the Koran, the holy book of Islam.

More recently there have been other, interventions, whose effects on humanity haven't been fully realized.

These recorded events indicate that over the milenia we have been spoon fed information which when interpreted and summarized, one can conclude their logical purpose a set of rules intended to ensure our success in achieving God's wish or our purpose in life.
