Why is there so much Evil and Suffering?

God has given us free will to follow our dreams and desires, and has given us instructions on a preferred way of life. Some of us expect God to be a protector during dangerous times, a healer during illness, and when things go wrong, we pacify ourselves by believing it's God's will. That's not the case. God does not will us evil and suffering, we allow it to happen. In various ways God cautions us of pending disasters, and we suffer when we ignore those warnings. We can't expect God to protect us from our stupidity anymore than we expect God to keep us from committing sins against nature, society and/or our bodies. With free will we control our every thought or action, we cause happiness or suffering.

God is like a parent. Giving us the means to prosper, a guide book to happiness, an education and occasionally when needed some additional help. History has shown that every so often we experience heavenly intervention. During those visits we receive helping hand, some additional guidance, instructions, and/or a scolding. The Scriptures Torah, Bible and Koran describe many of those interventions. Other times when we initiate communication with God, we get special visits and assistance, such as when we pray for someone's survival or another's health.

One critical time in our recent history is a possible example. It occurred around June 6, 1944, D Day, the invasion of Nazi occupied Europe. Before, during and immediately after the invasion, thousands if not millions of people prayed for favorable campaign. In retrospect, with all that could have gone wrong with the weather, the seas, Nazi reinforcements conditions improved enough to secure the invasion's success. Did God intervene after hearing the millions of prayers?

There are other cases where prayer has brought God's intervention, but many more situations where by not following God's rules, sins are not prevented and we injure one another. Its a vicious cycle, injury brings pain, anger, retribution, retaliation, more pain and injury. To end the cycle of violence the Bible says "turn the other cheek", "love your enemy" and to remember "Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord".
