DISAPPOINTING GOD

Over the years many empires have risen only to eventually fall. The list is long but one of the most notable was the Roman Empire. It lasted for approximately 1000 years and mainly due to it's technology and military power. It sustained itself with an ever increasing reliance on its subjugated nations and the slaves they provided. Internally the Empire became lazy, corrupt, violent and it's emperors ruled by propagating fear and social ignorance. There are parallels in our society which can only disappoint God.

Our country was founded with human slavery and although we don't think of it as slavery we ar using petroleum to power our industries, lives and transportation. As a result we are are repeating history by attempting to subjugate other countries to secure the petroleum to feed our slave machinery. God can not approve.

Internally, we suffer from all sorts of crime violent and white collar. There is growing laziness, greed and corruption. here's a perpetuation of ignorance and preoccupation with sexuality and lust. Social ignorance causes all society to degrade allowing the growth of all things anti-productive. Its in our entertainment, our sports, schools, streets and homes. We even get violence preached to us by our government, and religious leaders. Might does not makes right. As all Imperialistic countries learned, conquest comes at a high cost. It often weakens the conqueror's society while embittering the conquered who find many means, large & small to resist the conquerors. The cost to maintain stability in the conquered becomes unbearable. God can not approve.

At home we build walls and secure zones around ourselves and teach our kids to fear strangers. Parents are justifiably teaching caution to their children, but children can grow to fear the unknown, have fear of adventure and not be productive adults. Living in a Crime and Violent prone society is contrary to God wishes.

Our society has become too lazy, we are wasteful consumers of energy for heating, cooling and transportation. A result is that approximately 60 million of us are considered obese, many of these are the adolescent. I feel obesity is close to being a sin. In violating our body's optimum condition we burden society with increased medical and other supportive measures consuming resources that could have found better use. Consider this. We spend tax dollars to keep food prices low, other dollars in advertising to get people to eat more, more dollars are spent telling us we're too fat and driving us to spend more dollars to slim down. The health problems attributed to obesity is consuming even increasing resources. Put yourself in God's position, seeing the multitude of the world's poverty and undernourished, and our glut what would be God's reaction. Wasted resources and obesity are sins against our world, bodies and humanity. God can not approve of this.

The flip side of obesity is greed, and along with corruption seems to be growing. We are becoming a nation of individuals desiring wealth at any cost, even at the expense of others. Cutting corners, cooking the books, deceiving people out of their savings, bribery and back room manipulations all cost our society. They set us back because resources which could have made improvements are now being consumed to correct, repair, rebuild or reimburse the results of the mismanagement. Each incident is a setback to society's progress. Recent corporate scandals are typical examples. In an effort to drive up stock values shady deals are concocted and misrepresentations occur. However, when the scheme can no longer be maintain, insiders unload their stock reaping profits and leaving others to suffer the loss. These are definite sins against society and restrains progress and meets with God's disapproval.

Another questionable corporate practice is the exporting of jobs to lower wage societies. Replacing exported jobs with lower paying jobs lowers individuals standard of living, reducing their purchasing power and eventually corporate profitability, forcing them into further cost reduction schemes. The goal seems to increase corporate profits which drive stock values higher. Eventually some of this gain may "trickle" down the economic ladder, but only after much pain and suffering has occurred. I can't imagine God approving of these practices.

Have you ever noticed how one scandal occurs after another. It seems they're by design to keep us distracted, to keep us from demanding change and restitution. Eventually they fade from memory. But, "Those who forget history are bound to repeat it." However, what about those who never learned history or gained sufficient knowledge about current events. This is becoming our biggest sin of all. The Bible says "the truth will set you free", likewise knowledge will keep you free. We are failing to maintain a highly educated society. Our children are not being educated to their fullest capability. High School graduates can't balance a check book let alone calculate the MPG of their car. We are setting ourselves up for failure when our future adults won't be able to compete with those in foreign countries. Those future adults would be incapable of understanding complex issues, making informed decisions and will be subject to the whims of the unscrupulous. We can not solve any of our problems unless we solve education and re-educate the entire population. I coined a phrase to address this problem, "Educate Thy children".

The last item would take volumes to cover but being that we're all caught up in it a simple statement can suffice. We have taken the wonderful and beautiful pleasure of our sexuality and corrupted and perverted it beyond reasonable belief. We have become a sexually perverted society that no one could justify saving.

These are just a few of the many factors indicating a troubled future, not the loving and prosperous world God wants for us. We claim to be a God fearing society, but the above indicate otherwise. It's almost as if 9/11/2001 was a wake up call. Have our domestic and foreign policies cause so much hardship that we needed a wake-up call? Is our morality corrupting? Are our political and economic beliefs getting in the way of what is morally right? Are our religious beliefs misguided, mis-directed? Is someone who professes strong religious beliefs automatically correct? The Bible says beware of false prophets.

If we wouldn't want our children to be subjected to the problems listed above then God wouldn't want it for us. The above are examples of how we disappoint God
